Are You Smashing The HIIT?

High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT), if you are not doing this then you must have missed the fitness buzz! It is EVERYWHERE!

But why? What is it?

HIIT is a training method which is based on intervals that are carried out at maximum effort. You do a crazy intense effort and then follow it with a rest or some active recovery before repeating again. It can actually be really good fun and it can save you loads of time, no longer do you need to run for hours or stare at that monitor on the cross trainer or treadmill in the gym wishing away the minutes or kilometres!

HIIT has become a very popular training method to burn more fat and help to increase strength and endurance. You can do a HIIT session with running or cycling intervals or with something like squats, burpees or mountain climbers! It is a really versatile training method. You could do an upper body HIIT workout, a lower body HIIT workout or a full body HIIT workout, the options are endless!

So try it out, you get more health benefits in a shorter time and we are all complaining that time is short so this is a great way to make sure you get your workout in, gaining maximum impact. You do need to commit though and give it your all when you are in the 'work' interval. Remember you get a 'rest' straight after so you can afford to push it. It is an all or nothing workout so you don't want to repeat this every day or you will burn out. Your body needs to rest and recover as this is where adaptions take place to make you stronger.
