A Crash Won't Stop Joe!
It started as a 60th birthday challenge, a place in the 2019 Etape du Tour, a 135km Tour de France stage from Albertville to Val Thorens with 5000m of climbing. I had heard all about Fay and Trail Tribe (constantly) from Sue, my better half, and sought Fay’s help by way of a personal training plan.
Following the results of a Watt Bike session, Fay put together a series of weekly training plans designed to get me ready to achieve my goal. Fay was incredibly positive and was convinced I could achieve my goal. After six weeks I was beginning to believe believe her. I was fitter than I had been for 20 years, was healthy and feeling great. Then a stray farm dog, resulting in a crash and a broken collar bone put paid to my ambition. The most frustrating bit was not having to give up my place in the Etape du Tour, it was the prospect of losing all of the fitness and positive energy I had from following the training plan.
Fay immediately stepped in with sympathy (some!) and an amended training and rehabilitation plan. This years Etape du Tour is gone, but I am looking forward to future challenges with - Fay’s help.
